Creating documents
You can create documents in Project Portal several ways depending on what you want to accomplish. For information about creating subdocuments, see Creating subdocuments.
Before you begin
To perform this task, you must be the owner of the folder or a member of an access group that has been assigned an access profile with the Create document permission for folders.
To create documents:
Without files or URLs attached:
- In the navigation pane, select the parent folder where you want to create the document.
- In the ribbon, in the Document group, click Create. The Create Document menu appears.
- Click Blank Document. An empty document property page appears.
- Click options or type values using the descriptions in Viewing and editing document properties.
- Click Save. The document's complete property page appears. You may now use any of the commands on the document that are described in Using document commands.
From existing files on your computer and you want to enter properties manually:
- In the navigation pane, select the parent folder where you want to create the document.
- In the ribbon, in the Document group, click Create. The Create Document menu appears.
- Click Upload File. A page appears with which you can select and upload files. The page that appears depends on your active Default upload type option described in Configuring user interface settings.
- When the files have uploaded, an empty document property page appears.
- Select or type values using the descriptions in Viewing and editing document properties.
- Click Save. The document's complete property page appears. You may now use any of the commands on the document that are described in Using document commands.
From existing files on your computer and you want the document properties to be set from the parent folder properties:
- Drag and drop the files onto the Documents list. A drag & drop area appears on the page and lists the files that you dropped there. To create additional documents, drag and drop more files or click Add files and select the files. To remove files, click the remove icon .
- When all the files that you want to upload are listed, click Upload. Project Portal creates a new document from each file and assigns the filename to the document name. The document properties of each document are set from the parent folder properties.
From a template stored in Project Portal:
Note Performing this procedure is only possible if templates and their folder structure have been configured within the workspace by a system administrator. Otherwise, the command is not available.
- In the navigation pane, select the parent folder where you want to create the document.
- In the ribbon, in the Document group, click Create. The Create Document menu appears.
- Click From template. A new browser window opens and prompts you to select a template document.
- Continue as described in Creating a file from a template.
